I hope that this March is finding you all well and happy and eating great food. You all know that we San Franciscans don't exactly suffer through winter, and I've been enjoying local citrus, avocados and greens. The jars of tomatoes I canned in late September are getting low in inventory, and I will have to remember to process more than 20 pounds for myself next year. With the way that I cook, I am starting to believe that processing 50 pounds per person per year would be optimal -- what is the magic number you have found?
The folks over at Culinate have developed a very nifty farmers market finder -- it has comprehensive data nationwide, allows market managers to maintain a blog, and will eventually allow users to comment on and update market pages through their own blog posts as well. The folks at Culinate and I originally talked about integrating this tool with the ELC site last summer, so I am excited that it's up and running. You can try it out here on the ELC home page by entering your zip code into the widget there at the top of the left column. Let me know if you try it out, and if you have any feedback -- I'll pass it along.
